What is an Applet in Java?

  • Applet is run on a remote browser in internet. To run an applet you have to import java.applet and java.awt. To execute an applet an applet viewer or a Web browser is used.
  • Applet is a window based program.
  • Applet follows event based architecture: Applet has to wait for events to happen. Every applet has a event handler. AWT is used to notify about an event to the event handler. After the execution of the particular event, the control is transferred back to AWT.
  • User creates the events for applet: For an applet a user has to create events. For example, a mouse event or pressing a key in the keyboard.
