The first language in this series was BCPL. It was one of the oldest computer languages and considered as the basis for the C language. It was developed by Martin Richards. Later a language B was developed which was more dependent on BCPL. B was developed by Ken Thompson. Then, C language was developed by Dennis Ritchie in 1970s. It was first run on a system DEC PDP 11 using the UNIX 5 operating system. Later in 1989 ANSI (American National Standard Institute) was set up to form a generalized version of C and it was also accepted by ISO (International Standard Organization).
