To change and personalize mouse pointers, mouse buttons, mouse wheel settings, pointer options in Windows 8, follow these steps:
1) Right click on the desktop and select “Personalize”.
2) Then, click on “Change mouse pointers” on the left side.
3) On the Mouse Properties dialog box:
i) Button configuration: Check option “Switch primary and secondary buttons” to change the basic functionality of left and right buttons. If you check this option, then the functionalities of left mouse button will be the functionalities of right mouse button. This is very useful for the people who are left handed.
ii) Double-click speed: Here you can adjust the Double-click speed for opening a folder.
iii) ClickLock: ClickLock can be used for highlighting and dragging without holding down the mouse button. It is useful for selecting multiple items. To enable the ClickLock, click and press the button for some time. Then, release the button. You can change this timing by clicking on “Turn on ClickLock” and then “Settings”.
i) To change the mouse pointer, select a “Scheme” from the drop down menu.
ii) Then customize it by picking any option from the list.
iii) To enable the pointer shadow, check option “Enable pointer shadow”.
iv) Click on “Browse” to pick the shadow as per your requirements.
c) Pointer Options:
i) Motion: Here, you can adjust the pointer speed with respect to the movement of the mouse. You check the option “Enhance pointer precision” for making it easy to move the pointer in short distance.
ii) Snap To: If you select option “Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box” then the mouse pointer will automatically be moved to the default button in the dialog box. Usually this button is the “OK” button.
iii) Display pointer trails: Check this option to make the mouse leave a trail after the movement. This is useful if you are having difficult in locating the mouse pointer.
iv) Hide pointer while typing: Check this option to hide the pointer when you are typing.
v) Show location of pointer when I press CTRL key: Check this option if you wish to locate the pointer. To locate, you just have to press CTRL key.
i) Vertical scrolling: You can change the number of lines that would be scrolled when you scroll the mouse wheel one notch. You can chnage the number from here. Also, you can scroll the entire screen by scrolling one notch by selecting on option “One screen at a time”. Default is 3.
ii) Horizontal scrolling: Here, you can change the number of characters which will be scrolled horizontally at a time. Default is 3.
Make sure, that when you have done the necessary changes, you click on “Apply” and then “OK”.
