How to change default visual effects, turn on/off animations in Windows 8?

Windows 8 comes with a default animation, styles and visual effects. However, you can change visual effects and turn on/off the default animations by following the below given steps:

1) Right click on “Computer” icon in the desktop.

2) Click on “Properties”.

3) Then, click on “Advanced System Settings” on the left side.

4) Go to: “Advanced” tab.

5) Click on “Settings” under “Performance”

6) In Performance Options dialog box, select option “Custom”

7) Check or uncheck as per your needs for the below given options:

a) Animate controls and elements inside Windows

b) Animate windows when maximizing and minimizing

c) Animations in the taskbar

d) Enable peek

e) Fade or slide menus into view

f) Fade or slide Tooltips into view

g) Fade out menu items after clicking

h) Save taskbar thumbnail previews

i) Show shadows under mouse pointer

j) Show shadows under Windows

k) Show thumbnails instead of icons

l) Show translucent selection rectangle

m) Show window contents while dragging

n) Slide open combo boxes

o) Smooth edges of screen fonts

p) Smooth scroll list boxes

q) Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop

8) When you are done, click on “Apply” and then, “OK”.
